3g Problems

Im a complete iphone novice but i thought that i would have 24/7 access to 3g wherever i was. All i seem to pick up are wi-fi connections when i am out and even if i can connect the pace is slow. Could someone tell me what i am doing wrong and how to get my 3g access sorted.

First, make sure your 3G on/off switch in settings is turned on. Second, 3G is available in most places but not all. Mostly citys/major roads. Depends on your network Att has a map online not sure how updated it is but it might give you an idea.
