Was out of the country for 1 week.. How to recover/push SMS and iMessages?!?!

Hi guys. I'm a C Spire (formerly called "Cellular South") user with an iPhone 4. Prior to leaving the country for a week, I was told by a service rep that my iPhone would not work internationally and I'd either have to get a loaner phone and incur huge charges or just not have a working phone unless I had a wi-fi connection for internet, email, etc.. which is what I did. I got back to the states yesterday and, unlike my friends and family members with other types of phones and carriers etc, my messages from the week didn't come through. I called a rep who told me to reset my network settings, then try resetting all settings, both of which I did to no avail.

PLEASE tell me there is SOME WAY to get my texts and/or iMessages to come through or be recovered somehow.
