Generally speaking, everyone (except for AT&T) seems to be incredibly happy and excited about the new Verizon iPhone 4, especially the Daily Show’s Jon Stewart! One of the questions that many people have been asking, especially when they see the slightly different antenna array on the Verizon iPhone, is whether or not this new iPhone 4 suffers from the “death grip” issues of the previous version. Mobile Crunch actually got the chance to have some robust hands-on time with the new phone at the launch event, paying specific attention to the antenna issue, with their reporter John Biggs putting the phone thoroughly through its death-grip-testing paces, holding it from the top, the bottom, and generally just getting very handsy with it! It’s a wonder that the Verizon Wireless people didn’t get a bit nervous with all the manhandling, but they were probably too busy rubbing their hands together with glee to notice. Anyway, the upshot of Mobile Crunch’s thorough death-grip testing was that the signal stayed strong and constant throughout, with not the slightest sign of a drop. So, it would appear that the death grip issue has been eliminated in the Verizon iPhone, albeit in ideal conditions with a pre-release version.
