Received an offer from Verizon to change from unlimited data to 6GB for more $ per month. It would be nice to update to a 5s but in on Nevada side of Lake Tahoe 3G or LTE signal is a joke. I don't use much data on my iPhone 4 because I can't. I have to rely on WiFi to stream or access the Internet since we don't have any Verizon towers in range. Voice works but not data.

So until Verizon addresses this issue, the few subscribers here will not change (AT&T has a bigger following because they had the iPhone longer but their voice connection in North Tahoe is more a joke). We still have regions where 1X data is king, I don't have the patience to attempt to use data when 1X.

The other issue is I don't recommend iPads for businesses here, since we are in a data dark zone. I know people have upgraded their AT&T iPhones because they can, but LTE is a joke. On Verizon iPhone 5 phones my clients own, I have disabled LTE since it is less reliable than small amount 3G. All but one tower is owned by third party. Verizon installed a tower in 2007 near highway 431 but the rest are owned by a company in Sacramento.

So if you plan to visit North Tahoe with a shiny new iPhone 5s in tow, Verizon gives you good 1x voice coverage but you will need WiFi to enjoy a good data connection.

I forgot to post this. Shows how wonderful our data connection is. This is a 1x data connection. The location is actually Crystal Bay at the Biltmore Casino Hotel. The Cal Neva across the street has a tower (not owned by Verizon) but apparently it's aimed at The lake and Brockaway (Kings Beach). The APP does not have an "E" designation because EVDO signal not available.

Yup!!! I have iPhone 4 as well and holding on for dear life to my unlimited dats plan for as long as I can!! I don't really talk on it much, just have it around when I need it. I have an iPod touch 5th gen so if I want M iPhone 5 experience I will just play with my touch as I am doing now. Lol.

I am in NY and my apt. Building is facing an ATT tower so no luck for me either. I bitched at verizon when I got my iPad in 2011 because the data signal is bad they gave me a free network extender. Works great when I am in my bedroom or in the back of the apartment but doesn't work too well in the living room / kitchen area as the fireproofing materials in the wall that separates the front and back of the apt ALSO block the wireless signal LMAO!!! #cantwin.

But since then I've gotten verizon Fios w wifi which solves my data problem and no longer use cellular data on my iPads except when I don't have access to wifi via hotspot on iPhone (I can get a wifi signal on my terrace) but I still have bad voice reception in the front of my apt. It works outside of the apt though.

You can upgrade via full retail or try www.swappa.com or Craigs list. Swappa is probably your best bet to find a good phone with out much hassle. They have a screening process and the transaction is through PayPal so your money is secure. Just food for thought.

Having an iphone and an ipod touch is redundant.

A client upgraded his AT&T iPhone and AT&T grandfathered his unlimited data, I used it for WiFi Hot Spot to download bring up a new laptop he purchased as well. He had 2 bars of LTE but I saw it switch to 4G (slower data) but when it was LTE it was fast.

I wish Verizon grandfathered our data plans without paying full price for an iPhone. What a ripoff that would be, pay full price and you can't enjoy LTE because Verizon won't invest in deploying towers, they rather rent towers they can't upgrade.

The edge plan is a bad idea it seems to me. All they do is finance the phone for 2 years for you. And u loose unlimited in the process. I'm not giving up my unlimited for anything!!!!
