Upgrading s/w unlocked 3GS 5.0.1

My 3GS is on iOS 5.0.1; BB 6.15.0;
New BR ;Unlocked with Ultrasnow.
Since I don't have the original carrier SIM , would it be possible for me to create a custom firmware ( 6.1) with Redsnow and restore through iTunes and JB with Evasi0n ?
Would the original SIM be required during JB ?
Would Ultrasnow unlock work subsequently?

With Evasi0n, not that I know of. You need access to your springboard to use Evasi0n, and since it does a reboot at the beginning, even if you hacktivate it, it won't stay open. Create the custom IPSW to preserve the BB using RedSn0w, restore it using iTunes. Once you're up and running again, jailbreak and hacktivate using RedSn0w. The result with be a tethered jailbreak. After jailbreaking and hacktivating, open up Cydia, install Evasi0n Untether for iOS 6, UltraSn0w and UltraSn0w Fixer for iOS 6. Evasi0n untethers your device, UltraSn0w unlocks, the fixer is a patch for UltraSn0w to work on iOS 6.0-6.1
