Never ran into this until iOS 14.2 came out and tried to upgrade with Win10 and latest iTunes.

Downloaded iOS 14.2 using iTunes and went to upgrade like I’ve been doing for at least 6 years over many older iOS’s and iPhones. All was fine till iOS 14.2

I kept getting “unable to upgrade-error 4000”. I searched the internet for 6 hours and nothing worked.... reinstalled iTunes, deleted iOS 14.2 and downloaded it at least 6 times. No dice.

Digging deep into windows, I was able to find the IPSW firmware in a hidden windows folder and moved it to root directory. Once in root directory want back to iTunes and pressed the Shift Key while clicking on upgrade, navigated to the moved firmware file in the root directory, and it upgraded the first time.

Just thought this may save others lots of time and frustration when coming up with the elusive error 4000 when upgrading using iTunes.

Have a great day folks.
