unable to send texts to one contact?

I've been having problems texting a friend of mine. We finally got the texts to go through and have been working without a problem for about a week but it started back up again. Seems to be the only person I have problems with when it comes to texting. Any ideas on what this issue could be?

I don't have any of the newer updates past the first initial one when the iPhone 4 came out last summer, could this be a problem as well? (I had the newer updates but they seem to slow my phone down way too much so I reset it).

You issue is really weird. You can send messages to everyone except for one contact which sometime work, sometime doesn't. Are u using a reception notification? Like when your contact receive the sms you will receive a notification? Or how do u know that the SMS didn't go?
