Apple decides not to embed Touch ID sensor in iPhone 8 display.JPG

It was rumoured up until very recently that Apple was still trying to decide whether or not to embed the Touch ID sensor in the iPhone 8 OLED display. Last week’s HomePod firmware leak all but confirmed that this would not be the case, and that Apple intended to use 3D facial recognition rather than a fingerprint sensor.

Now, AppleInsider reports that well-respected Ming-Chi Kuo, who has an excellent track record when it comes to Apple products, is doubling down on his own previous predictions and saying that Apple has “cancelled” plans to have Touch ID embedded in the OLED display.

Kuo adds that this decision could also come as a relief to one of Apple’s main rivals, Samsung, as the latter will not now feel so pressured to try to come up with similar display-embedded technology for its 2018 Galaxy S9 flagship phone.
