A couple of new Apple patents that just got published this week shed some light on what the Cupertino tech giant might be looking to improve in future handsets.

The first patent which was published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office describes a new safer method of unlocking your iPhone. The new technology would allow users to prove their identity by recognizing some supposedly familiar objects displayed on an image.

The user will have to provide then the needed data in order to unlock the device. The iPhone could “choose” to display a picture of a friend of a family member and ask you to identify the name of the person from a list of names. After the user will successfully swipe the correct name, the device will unlock. Such a security system would be hard to break, since every time one would attempt to unlock the device, another picture would arise.

So unless a thief takes the time to memorize all the people in their target’s life plus their names, we don’t see how the system could be broken. For now.

The second patent published this week, covers a potentially enhancing hearing aid that can automatically detect whether a person with a hearing deficit is using the device or not. The system would work by being able to detect the proximity of the hearing aid.

The filing explains:

“The device selects between a normal audio mode of operation and a hearing aid compatible mode of operation based on both the change in detected distance and the change in detected magnetic field.”
