Sync Contacts between iphone 4s and iPad 3 in Cloud

Hi, I'm new to this, so forgive if this is a stupid question:

I just loaded up my Contacts from my iPhone to the Cloud, which showed up perfectly in my iPad. But when I changed a phone number in one Contact, the correction would'nt show up in the iPad's Contacts! What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any hint!

This is a common problem with a quick solution which is not very easy to figure out. Just make sure you set the default account under Contacts in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars to iCloud. For screenshots and steps have a look here: iCloud contacts not syncing.
