Skype update iPhone 5

Unable to update via App Store it says "the item you tried to buy is no longer available".

Any ideas anyone please?

What version of iOS are you running? If it's an older version, you might not be able to upgrade. If you're running a current version of iOS, then try doing a hard reset (hold the home and power button simultaneously until your phone cuts off and the silver apple logo reappears).

From what I'm seeing on the major iOS and OS X news outlets, the App Store and iTunes seem to be having back-end service issues, nothing users can do about that. You might wait a while and try again.

True, but some of the major news outlets are reporting that several users have notified them of the same problems (apps disappearing from listings, slow service, and updates not downloading).

The App Store is running slower for me right now but I've searched for and found the Skype version 5.0 app listing. Maybe the issues are geographic in nature, with problem manifestations based on your location when trying to access services. It could be that the various Apple servers are not equally affected.

I restarted my phone a third time and it worked
