If the idea of having your own little 8 Mile-style rap battle re-enactment on your iPhone appeals to you, then check out Rap Rivals from Stagename, which has just had a major update. The free game is billed as the first role-playing music game for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch dedicated to the world of Hip Hop. In the game, players get to take on the role of an up-and-coming Rap Star battling against others trying to make it in the music business. You start off by creating a stage name, then enter a virtual studio, where you get to mix beats and record vocals. And just like in real life, if you can’t sing, the game has ways of retuning your voice using a range of professional studio effects. Once you have your sound and look, you can hit the stage to battle other players. To win a battle, you have to earn votes from the Rap Rivals community. Offstage, you can visit the Gear Shop to customise your look using the virtual currency you earn from winning battles. More gear can also be unlocked via achievements.

“Rap Rivals is a groundbreaking platform to connect like-minded music consumers with the artists and brands that want to engage them.” said Josh Barkin, CEO and founder of Stagename. “No rapping or music experience is required. We’ve created easy-to-use music making tools that lets anyone pick up the game and sound like a pro.”
