Question on tethering?
I will soon to be a new owner of an iPhone with Verizon and have a question on whether you need to “jailbreak” your phone even if you wanted to use it tethered (wired) to a lap top to use the phone to get internet for the laptop in remote areas?


Have read a lot about jail breaking, just looking at options..

Are you asking if you need to jailbreak to tether? The answer to that is no, but you need to also purchase the tethering plan and you're limited to 2gb a month and if you go over it's a fairly hefty overage fee. I have tethering on my iPhone and play World of Warcraft over it sometimes, playing that all day long only uses about 100mb a shot. For regular internet things like e-mail and facebook you can probably go all month every day and never hit your cap... but if you're hitting sites like Netflix and the like you're pretty much boned.

If you're jailbreaking to tether then all you need is the unlimited data plan. Just be aware that if you brick your phone jailbreaking it Verizon won't honor warranty or insurance.
