Bloomberg reports that the dispute between Qualcomm and Apple doesn’t look like being settled anytime soon, with the chip manufacturer now said to be looking to ask a U.S. trade agency to ban iPhones from being imported into the US. This would basically stop Apple from selling any iPhones in the US whatsoever, as the phones are manufactured outside of the country, mainly in Asia. Qualcomm is said to be mulling over the move as it is so furious at Apple’s refusal to pay the billions of dollars Qualcomm claims that it owes in smartphone chip licensing fees.

Bloomberg’s source says that Qualcomm is about to ask the International Trade Commission (ITC) to block the iPhone from being imported into the US in time to really disrupt Apple’s new iPhone launches later in the year.

According to Bloomberg, the ITC is a “quasi-judicial agency in Washington” that is powerful enough to be able to block goods from being imported into the US, and is also able to act quicker than federal district courts, where the two companies are currently squabbling.
