Possible to use the iPhone/Touch as a Power Point clicker?

Assume there is no WiFi access. Could I create some sort of ad-hoc network on my Netbook (Windows 7 Starter) that my iPhone/iPod Touch could connect to (without actually using a router, cable modem, etc) to accomplish this? Everything I see in the app store says it requires a WiFi. But where I am using the presentation doesn't have a WiFi network to connect to.
