Podcasts to Get their Own App in iOS 6

Peter Kafka at All Things D writes today that one of the new features that iOS 6 will be bringing to iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches is a dedicated Podcasts app. Kafka says that he has heard from those in the know at Apple that the new Podcast app will enable users to discover, download and play podcasts on their devices. They will also still be available to download and play on iTunes as well though, although Kafka notes that the podcasts button has gone missing from the iOS 6 version of iTunes, possibly because of something to do with the new app. Kafka notes that Apple has a tendency lately to launch separate apps for some of its key services, such as separating the iTunes player into video and music apps, and creating a separate app for iBooks as well as having iBooks available in iTunes. Having a separate Podcast app sounds like a great idea to me!
