Ofcom Survey Finds UK Adults Prefer iPhone but Teenagers Like the Blackberry Better

BBC News reports today on the results of a smartphone survey that has just been published by the UK telecoms regulator Ofcom. The 341-page Communications Market Report combines Ofcom’s research data with reports from other telecoms analysts. According to the report, one in three people in the UK now uses a smartphone, with 32% of adults stating that the iPhone was their favourite smartphone, and 37% of teenagers saying that they preferred the BlackBerry, which will please RIM to finally get a bit of good news in a survey! 37% of those adults surveyed and 60% of teenagers confessed that they were “addicted” to their smartphone. The survey also looked at smartphone usage and preferences in terms of sex, finding that 58% of adult smartphone owners are male and 42% are female. The reverse was true, however, in terms of teenagers (12-15 year-olds), with 52% of girls owning a smartphone as opposed to 48% of boys. Ofcom also found that the rapid uptake of smartphones in the UK has lead to a steep rise in the use of the mobile internet.
