When I want to send a picture, via a text, I go to my pictures Photos gallery, click 'Select' in the upper righthand corner and then touch on the picture(s) I want to text. When I'm finished selecting I touch on the "Share" icon in the lower left corner (a square box with an arrow pointed up out of the box). I then select the green Messages icon which takes me into the all familiar text messaging screen. No issues up to this point.

A few days ago I sent a person a group of 4 or 5 pictures via text. And when they opened the text message the pictures were organized in booklet-like format. Today I sent this same person, using the same phones on both ends, a group of pictures but this second time the pictures appeared more like individual pictures and not in booklet-like arrangement.

The preference would be to have the pictures received in the booklet arrangement.

Can someone shed some light on why this happened?

Just been checking that out. It would appear that the booklet format is standard. Where I have sent or received multiple images, they only appear to be split if there is accompanying text. I’ll keep digging and see if I can figure it out.

No problem. Doesn’t appear to be a limit of the number of pics in a booklet. I’ve had up to 20 images and videos sent to me at a time.

The first time I noticed this booklet effect was a few years ago, so it’s nothing to do with the newer operating systems. It’s certainly a tidier way of receiving multiple images.

Done some more digging. The photo stacking was introduced with iOS 15 and is the default behaviour. Since it cannot be disabled, groups of images should not show up individually.

In my experimenting I found that if you send 4 or more pictures (with or without comments) the pictures are received in booklet form. With less than 4 they are received as separate pictures.

Thoughts?

It seems that messages are sent and received differently when using non-Apple devices. I recently sent 5 images to my wife, which she received on her android phone as a list.

Apart from that, images in my messages bear out your observations.
