iDownload Blog reports today that the New Zealand Police Department has just become the latest in a long list of organisations, including the likes of Home Depot, to choose to adopt iOS devices rather than Android or BlackBerry devices. According to the report, the NZPD has announced that it will be equipping its officers with 10,000 iOS devices, with 6,000 officers getting iPhones and 3,900 of them also getting iPads. Police Commissioner Peter Marshall told The National Business Review that the NZPD had decided to buy the Apple devices after first testing Android and BlackBerry tablets and phones. More than 100 officers were involved in the test, which took place across four districts for 11 months. Marshall said that the iPhones and iPads won out over the competition because of positive “frontline officer feedback”. According to the report, the contract is worth around $5 million. More great news for Apple; when the likes of law enforcement officers, whose lives could even depend on having reliable communication, say that they prefer iOS devices over the competition when in the field, this surely says more about the products than any charts or graphs or financial figures.
