Rumour says Apple undecided on iPhone 8 release date.JPG

TechCrunch reports today that it has heard from multiple sources that Apple is almost certain to be holding its launch event for the iPhone 8, iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus on September 12, as was previously reported by BGR and The Wall Street Journal, although it is still keeping its options open until the very last minute.

Elsewhere, Daring Fireball’s John Gruber said that September 12 is “the date I would have bet on.”

While the date is looking more and more solid, the venue where the launch will take place is not so certain, however. Ideally, Apple wants to hold the unveiling in the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park, but they’re in a race against time to get it ready for the big day. As BGR notes, should the Steve Jobs Theater not be ready in time, Apple will most likely move the event to the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, which has hosted many previous Apple product announcements, and which has apparently not yet been booked by Apple this year.

“We’re two weeks away from the event,” said Gruber. “The Journal’s sources may not know where it’s being held, but Apple does.”
