My mom has a question about iPhone

ok. Her contract is up in August and she ask me to ask ya"ll if she gets a new phone will she get charged if she went with a free phone?? We're though verizon. She wants to pay for the activion fee but that's it.

She'll need a SIM card for the iPhone, at least to be able to make phone calls. That means she'll need a (new?) contract in order to use the phone. So she'll have to pay for the activation, as well as for the contract later on, as long as it lasts.

You don't get a phone "for free" when you purchase it from a carrier.

I think they do this with tablets as well - my carrier does.

So she'll renewal her contract but if she wants the iPhone 5C and the phone is free with a new contract will she have to pay anything extra??
