MacRumors reports that Microsoft has today updated its Office apps for iPhone and iPad with full support for saving and syncing documents via the iCloud drive service.

According to the original report on The Verge, users of such popular Office software as Word, Excel and PowerPoint are now able to open, edit, and save their documents to iCloud. The option to do so is located in the “Places” area of the respective iOS apps.

The good news is that you don’t have to have an Office 365 subscription to use the iCloud Drive to save your work. The only, ahem, cloud on the horizon would appear to be that, according to The Verge, there are some restrictions on several file types that could be problematic for some users, for example you won’t be able to access or edit a document that has been created with TextEdit on a Mac, although you will be able to see a thumbnail preview of the document.
