iPhone 8 to be called iPhone Edition according to casemakers.JPG

9to5 Mac reports today on an old rumour that has resurfaced and that is starting to look less and less like a rumour and more and more like solid fact as we approach the September 12 launch date of the new iPhone line up.

The news comes via 9to5 Mac’s Set Weintraub, who is currently at IFA in Berlin, Germany, and who has heard from several case vendors that the OLED iPhone, the one that we have all been calling iPhone 8 until now, will actually be called iPhone Edition. The two LCD phones that we have been referring to as the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus are in fact called iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, according to 9to5 Mac’s forces.

Weintraub says that the sources are very credible, with one brand he talked to having products that are stocked in the Apple Store.

The same sources also said that the iPhone Edition will have Qi wireless charging at a reduced rate, and which will be compatible with current available Qi chargers, including those installed at Starbucks. Another piece of information gleaned by Weintraub at IFA today is that the iPhone Edition’s glass case is expected to be made of improved Corning Gorilla Glass 5 similar to that of the LG V30.
