For my iPhone4. Our local library now has check out on e-books. You use Adobe to download to a pc, then you can copy to a portable device also. I have looked and all I see are readers that seem to be restricted to a list of books for that reader. Does anyone know of vanilla reader that will let me import ebooks?

You're welcome...you can also save PDF files from your email using iBooks.

iCrank's right, this method works really good. I use this method to keep up with all my online classroom reading material.

Air sharing also provides very nice pdf reading, among other files.....
