iPhone Forum Rules

The community on our forum is a great group of people that share the iPhone as our common thread, to include the use we put it through every day. Some of us have extensive knowledge and experience with computers, Apple, and the operating system in general and we're all here to help to the best of our ability.

We have no official ties to Apple in any way; we are not their representative nor do we have any business dealings with them - we just really, really like the iPhone and want to interact with other like-minded people. We take this opportunity to welcome you to our community and look forward to your visits.

However, as with any community, there are guidelines to follow to make the experience more enjoyable for all. So, please, before you start posting - read these rules! If there's anything that's unclear, or if you're in doubt, please feel free to message a moderator or administrator!

Do note this is a privately owned forum. Therefore, we reserve the right to accept or decline your membership application; you are not guaranteed membership and your membership is subject to revocation.

1. COURTESY

1.1. No content shall be posted that is considered racist, obscene, X-rated, or objectionable. All such posts will be deleted without notice and the member who posted it will be issued infractions or banned at our discretion. This restriction includes avatars, signatures and user names.

1.2. This is a family friendly forum. Don’t post content that you would not want your children, parents or significant others to see.

1.3. There will be no discussion of politics or religion on iPhoneForums.net. If you wish to discuss politics or religion, please go elsewhere.

1.4. You will not violate a person's privacy by publishing information that is private and personal.

1.5. We will not tolerate personal attacks on others; we take politeness very seriously. You are welcome to challenge others points of view and opinions, but please do so respectfully and thoughtfully.

2. USERNAMES

2.1. You may have only one account and username at iPhone Forums.

2.1.1. Duplicate accounts (also known as sock puppets) are commonly employed by vandals, bad-faith contributors or those who have had their original username banned. Such people create multiple user accounts in an attempt to bias discussions or cause disruptions.

2.1.2. Sock-puppeting will not be tolerated and any member who is discovered using multiple accounts will have ALL accounts suspended.

2.2. Do not use your e-mail address as your user name or include your e-mail in any thread or post.

2.2.1. If your user name is your e-mail address, your account will be suspended and you will be asked to create a new name.

2.2.2. Forum staff will delete any thread or post containing email address(es).

2.3. Members are encouraged to select an avatar to use along with their username; it makes the forum (and you!) more personable. We have a selection of avatars available on the forum or you may select your own.

2.3.1. We do ask the avatar follow rule #1 (nothing racist, X-rated, objectionable, obscene, etc.).

2.3.2. No avatar may contain or consist of scan-able code (such as a QR or UPC codes), email addresses or phone numbers.

3. POSTS

3.1. While we ARE an international forum, we use English as the forum's primary language and therefore ask that your posts be in English.

3.1.1. We have set up international sub-forums for many countries/cultures where we encourage the use of languages other than English. You can access the list of international forums here.

3.1.2. If your country, culture or language is not listed in our forums, please contact admin to see if a sub-forum can be established.

3.2. Do create threads in the proper forum. Threads created and posted in the wrong forum are subject to being moved to the proper forum or deleted.

3.2.1. One thread on the same topic or question, posted in multiple forums, is also subject to deletion.

3.3. Do not post an off-topic comment in an existing thread. This derails the conversation and makes it difficult for others to follow. If you have a comment or question that is different from the topic in the thread, please start a new post.

3.4. Thread hijacking is not allowed ... this includes continuing general chit-chat or banter in legitimate threads. While some back-and-forth is okay, please keep extended talk in the Off Topic section.

3.4.1. Chit-chat in the Off Topic section still falls under all the Forum Rules. So, keep it clean!

3.5. Do not “bump” a post to draw attention the forum’s attention to it; bumping posts may subject the post to deletion.

3.5.1. After 48 hours, if you have not received a response on a question, you may bump your post one (1) time.

3.5.2. If you still do not receive a response send a private message (PM) to a moderator and ask for assistance.

3.6. Do not post in order to anger other members or intentionally cause negative reactions. For any given post, this can be a subjective call, but a pattern of such posting or an especially egregious case will get you banned.

3.7. Please use the search function(s) prior to posting a comment or question. We have a forum-specific search utility that is easily accessible from any part of the forum (it is in the upper right quadrant of any page on the site).

3.8. You may not post for charity, fundraising, or research purposes. This includes requests or links to join or contribute to crowd-funding sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, etc.

3.9. Do not promote other iPhone-related forums/blogs in your posts, signatures or in any way on the forum; doing so may result in a banning.

3.9.1. Members may post news articles from these sites for highlighting and discussion at this forum.

3.10. Do not post your e-mail address in requests for people to contact you via e-mail or iMessage. In addition, do not post other personal or business contact information on this forum, to include mailing addresses and phone numbers.

4. LINKS

4.1. Do not post external links or email addresses in thread titles.

4.2. Forum members may post links to products or services as long as such postings are relevant to the conversation, enhance the discussion within the thread and do not promote your commercial web site, domain, service, company, business or another iPhone forum. Administrators and moderators reserve the right to delete any inappropriate or excessive links.

4.2.1. If you are the developer, owner or are otherwise affiliated with the product or service, web site, etc., you may not post links unless you are a registered (and paying) supporting vendor.

4.3. Members may post links to personal social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus (G+), etc.

4.4. Forum staff will delete links to upgrades for BETA software. User will receive one warning. A second warning will result in a suspension of your account.

4.5. Please note Forum Foundry owners and staff are not responsible for the content of any external site or social media. We cannot guarantee they are “family friendly” - follow links at your own risk.

5. ADVERTISING

5.1.Members may notadvertise anything that costs money; this includes offering items or services for sale or trade, to include your personal devices. Please note this also includes the announcement or advertising of free or paid apps and iBooks.

5.1.1. The only way people are allowed to advertise on this site is if they are paying to do so (they are paying sponsors/vendors). The forum owners are the only ones able to make this decision.

5.2. Do not promote your websites, domains, company, or services in any of the discussion forums. This includes starting a thread, replying to a post, or putting it in your signature.

5.3. If a member is seeking assistance or looking for a certain type of product, the best way to offer your services is to send a PM.

5.4. If you wish to show off your app or iBook, you MUST be a sponsor of this site to post about any app or iBook. Forum staff will delete posts or threads from App/book developers or promoters who are not sponsors of this forum.

5.5. If you wish to become a sponsor of this site (to allow you to have your own sub-forum to show off your products or services, or to promote apps/iBooks), please use this link to send a private message/request to the forum administrators.

6. SPAM

6.1. We have a zero-tolerance approach on SPAM. If you post SPAM in any forum, your account will be permanently banned and your topic/posts will be deleted.

6.2. If you only post once and that post advertises a product or has a link that leads to a product (and is only to send members to that product link), this is SPAM and will be treated as such.

6.3. You may not use the forum's Private Messaging (PM) feature to SPAM our members. The same applies: if you are spamming via private message, your account membership will be revoked.

6.3.1. If you receive SPAM in a private message, please report it to the forum staff for the appropriate action. Help us stamp out SPAM!

7. PIRACY

7.1. Piracy is illegal and the staff of iPhoneForums.net neither condones nor supports it in any way. Jail breaking and hacking does NOT equal stealing or pirating!

7.2. Discussion of pirated or cracked applications and any methods associated with enabling their use, such as posting app or repository names, is forbidden on this forum.

7.3. Do not post to or start threads to discuss, link to or share any piracy related topics, apps, repositories, etc. Such posts will be edited, closed or deleted and the member will receive a warning. A second warning may lead to an immediate ban.

7.4. As ROMS for Nintendo, PlayStation, and all other emulators are, at best, a grey area, all fall under the same category as piracy on these forums. No discussion on sourcing ROMS for emulators will be tolerated, although discussions about the emulators themselves are acceptable.

7.5. Discussion of illegally obtaining other media such as music, movies, games, books or other copyrighted content is also forbidden here.

8. SIGNATURES:

8.1. You may have no more than five lines in a signature [maximum].

8.2. You may not include any external links (except personal social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus (G+), etc.). This includes e-mail addresses, phone numbers, other iPhone forums, commercial web sites, etc. Please note this is for external links; you may link to posts within iPhoneForums.

8.3. You may not have a signature that contains advertisements for any product, service, web site, etc., unless you are a registered supporting vendor of the forum or have received special dispensation from the owners or administrators of this forum.

8.4. Your signature content should follow the rules of this forum (no profanity, rudeness, etc.).

8.5. Your signature should not be overly enhanced with the use of punctuation, color, etc., making the signature too flashy. Signature text that is too long or obtrusive will be changed or removed.

8.6. Signatures that mention where to get support or help with an app or theme is allowed within reason. However, such mentions must receive prior admin approval before posting.

NOTE: If your signature is in violation of any of these rules, the staff may remove it without prior notice.

9. MODERATION

9.1. The moderators and admin staff of this forum are volunteers “hired” to keep this community a friendly place to visit. However, they are few in number and can’t be everywhere at once. Therefore, we ask you assist them in “moderating” this forum. If you see a post you believe (1) violates these rules or (2) is, or could be, disruptive to our friendly community atmosphere, please use the forum’s Report function to bring the situation to the staff’s attention. We thank you in advance.

9.2. Users may disagree with the decisions or actions of the moderators or administrators. However, such disagreements, criticism and the like are not to be aired publicly in the forum. Please feel free to PM the person (or admin) directly rather than air your dirty laundry in public.

9.3. Any abuse towards our staff or management will result in immediate suspension of your account.

9.4. You may or may not be notified if actions regarding rules violations are taken; moderators and administrators have the final word.

9.5. If you have a problem, complaint, or question, please direct it to the administrators, do not post your problem, complaint, or question in the public forums. The administrators will act as quickly as possible to take appropriate action to resolve the issue in a private and discreet manner.

9.6. If you have any questions as to whether something is acceptable or if you need clarification on these rules, please send a private message to a moderator.

These rules are susceptible to change; please check back periodically. However, our biggest rule, which is not subject to change, is .... have fun and enjoy the forums! We are glad you decided to join us and hope you have a good time.
