Remember when you got hungry at the office? Remember how you couldn’t wait to finish your work so you could run across the street to the nearest restaurant and finally order something? Well, thanks to mobile technology, such annoying situations are a thing of the past. Now, customers can order their launch via their iPhone with only one simple tap.

A new survey coming via Splick-it claims that half of the people involved in their study, admitted they ordered food online and were using mobile applications to do so, at least once a month. There were 7,122 people involved in the Splick-it food survey and 70% of those being queried had ages between 20 and 40. Only 25% of those surveyed admitted they never used a mobile food ordering app, while the other remaining 21% stated that they were using such apps on a daily or weekly basis.

Jordan von Kluck who is a director of information technology for Lou Malnati’s Pizza restaurant chain explained that mobile media offers massive revenue possibilities for the food catering business:

“Mobile ordering is a huge opportunity for all of us. If you’re not giving your customers a single way to find out about you and to order, you’ll lose business to those who are.”

People usually tend to order lunch through online media because, as mentioned above, it's fast, reliable and takes away the hassle of actually leaving the building, waiting for the waiter to take your order and get served. Actually 70% of respondents say this is what they love about mobile food apps – they can place an order fast, while 50% admitted they like to order online so they can avoid not sitting in queue.

Yeah, these apps are making me fat(ter), lol.

Online ordering via phone, fax and email is nothing new. Extending this to an app is simply the next logical step.

Theres even apps that use the map function to order a taxi to your current location with a few taps of the screen. Gotta love apps!
