Iphone as an ipod touch

I am getting an iphone 3g to use as an ipod touch. How do i activate it. Its is locked to att. Do i just pop an att sim in there and activate it. But with no service

If you are not going to use the phone feature then you don't need a sim card. All you need is an apple ID.

Just sign in with your Apple ID and your all set to use the phone on Wifi.

Well if your phone is locked, you will have to search on different forums how to break that lock and bring your Iphone in or Diagnostic Mode to remove or unlock your cell.

Well i dont want to unlock. Maybe jailbreak. But the person im buying it from is giving me the att locked phone. With an old att sim. Do i just put the sim in the phone? Sorry im on a verizon iphone. So i dont much about sim cards.
