Its like the wire is bad, I know its not (tested another device). It also wont charge unless the phone is off... when I randomly push the power and home button my pc will tell me usb device unplugged?? any help would be great.... thanks

Perform a hard reset by pressing and holding both the power and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo, then release both. Do so with the USB cable plugged in and see if that resolves it. If not, clean out your 30-pin port with a can of compressed air or a very fine brush. If neither resolves, your port is acting up and may be a hardware issue which will warrant a replacement if you want to keep the device functional.
