One thing I've noticed in the 1 week that I've had my iPhone 4S is that when the battery gets down to 10%, my iPhone will shutdown and won't come back up until I've charged it for a bit.

Is this normal?

My iPad1 will go until it gets to 1% and then will shutdown, so that's what I'm used to.

Any ideas?

That doesn't sound right mine can get all the way down to 1 percent before it goes off I would get it checked out soon

Try this first :)

1. Try draining the battery all the way till it doesn't turn on again (Keep trying to turn it on when the charge icon comes on the screen)

2. Then charge it all the way to 100% (Do not use your phone as it is charging)

3. Then drain all the way back down to 0% again and do the same as step 1.

4. Charge all the way back upto 100% (Do not use it as it's charging again) and report back here if that help's the problems :)

That's not a problem i'm on here everyday :) if that doesn't work i have another one for you to try :) i had the same problem as you after 1 week of having my 4S i asked the same question as you to my local carphonewarehouse and they told me to try these before going to apple :) it's something to do with fully activating the iPhone battery.... Hope i can help you with this :)

Thanks. Might actually take a couple of days to do 2 cycles.

Maybe I'll play games or stream video for a while to run it down faster.

i always thought that with the Smartphones, iPhones, blackBerries, and Droids, that you didn't have to cycle the batteries. I am still learning

I thought the same i thought those days had long gone but apparently not lol maybe this won't fix it but it fixed mine and now it's at-least lasting a day :)

Ran a 2 hour movie 3 times, went out and later took a photo with it when it was at 20% and it shut down.

Kept pressing the power button until it wouldn't do anything. It's charging now and then I'll run it down again.

Sounds good i hope that this works for you it sorted mine out straight away.....

Keep me posted :)

I think it worked.

Well into the second drain cycle, it got down to 7% before I had to charge it so I would have a phone when I went out.

It is so hard to drain it down all the way and then charge it up without using it.

Thanks for the help!

Why shouldn't you use your phone while charging?

Why shouldn't you use your phone while charging?

Because when you use it while it's charging you will be using the battery that you are trying to fix. While it's trying to charge the battery and you are use a application or game that is battery happy (graphics/use alot of wi-fi) the iPhone will keep charging the same spot on the battery over and over and over again and it will cause the battery to get very hot and eventually the battery will develop a dead spot on that part of the battery :)

I had the same problem and after i did a full charge and a full discharge 2 or 3 times my phone works even at 1%.

My new 4S used to run for about 1 hour on 1%. Now, it shuts down at 3%. I'll have to try this.
