MacWorld reports today some truly staggering sales figures for the iPhone 4 in its first week on sale in China, stating that China Unicom, the company that carries the iPhone 4 in China, has sold out of its first shipment, according to company vice president Li Gang. As a result, China Unicom has halted all online ordering of the handset, requesting instead that customers visit their local store and sign up for the phone in person.

Putting the figure of 100,000 iPhone 4s sold in four days in context, MacWorld says that when the iPhone 3G and 3GS was released in China last year, it took more than a month for China Unicom to sell 100, 000 units.

With stores all over China already sold out of the iPhone 4, Apple has responded to the incredible demand by saying that it will be making more iPhone 4s available in China as soon as possible, and China Unicom vice president Li said that the company is expecting to receive the next shipment of iPhone 4s on October 1, which is a national holiday in the country.
