............hello peeps, Davie the newbie here,

I,ve got a wee problem on powering up both my iphone 4 & the 'bosses' iphone 4s,
I renew'd both front digi and rear cases on both fones, no problems,
I plugged them in to charge, from wall charger, everything was ok, charging fine and
all screen and stuff on both fones were fine,
( both fones were working before the case changes)

so I unplugged them from wall after fully charging batteries, and both died on me!
they wont power up unless they are on wall charger or computer!?!

I managed to get them going attatched to my computer and restored them to factory settings,
and the connect to the itunes symbol appears ok,
but as soon as I unplug them it shuts off the fone,
and both fones wont power up by themselves???

(now itunes say that there is a problem (-39) on mine,
and itunes is downloading software for the fones.
in recovery mode, now have an error (4014) and error (21)

both fones now switch off when itunes is about to update software!
both fones are now sitting with the connect to itunes symbols,)
I give in!

Welcome to iPhone Forums!

Make sure iTunes is up to date, as well as the computer. Restart your computer, and try using a different USB cable when you restore the iPhones. If possible, use a different computer, if the advice before doesn't help.
Force restart the iPhones: press and hold Home and Power button until the Apple logo appears.

It's possible that the connection to the battery is not working correctly. If possible, remove the battery, clean the connector and reattach the battery.

Also, give DFU mode a try: DFU Mode for Dummies

Hi thanx for the welcome and reply!

itunes up to date, used three dif usb cables, brand new computer less than a month old!
I have tried to force start both fones and nothing happens unless I use the wallcharger or computer usb

both fones wont power up disconnected from chargers, very strange,

it IS as if the batteries are discharged,
but they are fully charged acording to the powerbar on the fones.

both fones now say connect to itunes, (when attatched to usb cable)
itunes downloaded restore software,
but as soon as I press restore, the fones switch themselves off an on again!
and itunes say its waiting for fone!
:(

I put both fones onto DFU mode, black screen,
Itunes recognizes the fones, trys to install software,
fones stop and restart with the connect to itunes logo,
swapped batteries over, cleaned connections,
still nothing,
I think I have nakered them somehow,
try again tomorrow:confused:

If neither recovery mode nor DFU mode will work to restore your phones, when you have a good internet connection on your computer, there are almost certainly hardware problems that are preventing the restore process from succeeding. At this point, you may want to have the Genius Bar at an Apple Store run a diagnostic to confirm this.

...........a wee update peeps,
I managed to get both fones working!

but on the 4 the middle buttons n the screen, 2, 5, 8, 0, won't work?

and on the 4s the apps along the bottom of screen? won't move when I try to exchange them?

every other button & function works fine!

it's just gettin annoying now!
