Iphone 3gs "no Sim" problem

Hi I have an Iphone 3GS and it's not finding the sim, it's connected to Wifi but in the top left hand corner it says searching then comes up with "no service" I've opened it up and made sure the 2 gold colour bars at the bottom of the sim tray are not in contact when the tray is in, does anyone have any other ideas what the problem might be?

Also at the bottom right corner of the logic board there is a little gold squiggly bit of metal soldered onto the board, what does this do?

Any help would be very greatly appreciated...

it is possible the gsm network connector is damaged. take a look at this link and check out your logic board
