Massively popular photography app Instagram, which was voted Apple’s 2011 “App of the Year” has just been updated to version 2.1. According to the Instagram blog, the new features include Lux, which it describes as “a new way to instantly transform the look and feel of your photos.” All it takes is one tap for Lux to make your photos more vibrant and bring out previously unseen details. You can use Lux either with or without a filter. A new filter, Sierra (pictured), is also included in the update, which 9to5 Mac explains boosts the yellow saturation of an image for a nostalgic feel, complete with a square border. The overall look and UI of the app has also been simplified, with improved header and menu buttons, which the developer says are “the first steps towards making it easier to understand and interact with our app.” Notifications have also been updated so that now when you tap a notification, you’ll be taken straight to the photo, comment or user profile that the notification refers to. And finally, 9to5 Mac notes that since the update, Instagram now checks with you before uploading your contacts to its servers, so as to avoid Path-type shenanigans. [/FONT]
