John Paczkowski at AllThingsD has some disappointing news for those of us who were looking forward to Epic Games’ Infinity Blade: Dungeons, the next instalment in the Infinity Blade series on iOS. Unfortunately the game will not now be arriving in the App Store until next year. This would make it nearly a year since the game was first demoed at the launch of the third-generation iPad this past March. Since then, the iPhone 5 has been launched, and the iPad mini is about to be launched, but still no Infinity Blade: Dungeons. Spokesman Wes Phillips told AllThingsD that the main reason for the delay is the sheer logistics involved in setting up a new studio and team at Impossible Studios. Still, all the more to look forward to, then, as Paczkowski notes that sources have told him that the new team working on the team comprises several Gears of War vets.

I wonder if they are waiting for an iPad 4 test unit as well. Since the iPhone 5 was a very large leap in performance, they now have to balance the iPhone 4, 4S and 5, the iPad 2, 3 and 4 and possibly the iPad Mini for creating the the models with their polygon counts and how that will affect the frame rate as well as AI time slicing on each device.

For the second time in iPhone history, Apple has created enough of a performance gap between its lowest production model (iPhone 4) and highest (iPhone 5) to reach the same issue that Android has been experiencing for the last 3 years.
