I'm prompted to type a password... and my virtual keyboard doesn't display

I've had my iPhone 4S for about a week now and I've installed a few apps without any problems. I went onto the app store just now to install something else and once the app store username/password prompt appeared on my screen, I was unable to type my password -- the virtual keyboard is nowhere to be seen or used.

Is anyone aware of this annoying glitch and how to solve the problem?

Just try turning your phone off and back on and see if this cures it

If all else fails, and I
Mean by that, slapping it, tapping it, throwing it against a wall, running over it, jumping on it, blowing it up. Then always try the simple solution. Turning it off and on!!
