iCloud backup in progress

I like to play Real Racing 3 on my iPad, and now each time I launch the program, it does an iCloud backup. Is this necessary? It has only been doing it for about a week.

Real Racing 3 has zero support.

Sorry, it also does this on my iPhone. That's where I noticed it first.

Well, you could delete it in settings, then turn the auto iCloud back up toggle off. But then nothing new would get backed up.

My question is why am I just noticing it? Is it a new update in the program?
