Engadget today features AliveCor’s iCard ECG, which is designed to be attached to the back of an iPhone or iPad with Velcro, so that it can then send data wirelessly to the accompanying AliveECG app via its electrodes. The app will then automatically record 30 seconds of the user’s heart’s rhythmic pulse, then upload it to AliveCor’s servers, so that it can then be reviewed by your doctors. Unfortunately the device has yet to be approved by the FDA, so it’s not yet available to buy.

This iCard ECG is actually a more versatile version of AliveCor’s previous offering, the iPhoneECG case, which was launched at CES last December and which operated via an iPhone 4 case. With the iCard ECG, you can use it with any iPhone or iPad, as it’s universal and not restricted to a specific size of case. The video actually shows the device working perfectly on an iPhone 3GS, for example.
