Well, Stefan Esser is at it again. He has discovered an exploit in 5.1 and has successfully jailbroken his iPad2. We can assume that this exploit will most likely exist on the new iPad as well which is great for those who pre-ordered and are looking forward to being able to jailbreak.

Here are the pics of his iPad2:

There is no release date or ETA yet, so don't bother asking :p

Bootrom exploit or userland exploit????? That's what really matters.

FYI developers are allowed to load custom ipsw's so anyone with a developer account can jailbreak any iOS version & device tethered. I'm not saying that ionic's pics are fake, but it could just be a custom ipsw, which is illegal to distribute and would never be released publicly.

Also, the exploits used in the 5.0/5.0.1 jailbreak found by pod2g and developed by the 'dream team' are still usable in 5.1, that's why there's an A4 tethered jailbreak available still. The only the thing that's changed is IOS 5.1 has blocked the untether injection method that was used. We won't see an A5 untether until a new boot-level exploit is found. When one is found, the absinthe/corona jailbreak userland exploits could still work with it as well as any new exploits developed.

Ionic has been known to troll but he's also known for his 4.x jailbreak as well. Only time will tell if his method is distributable. With the new A5X iPad out, my guess most iOS hackers will focus on that and we won't see a 5.1 A5 'UNTETHER' come out for a few months. I have an iPad 2 and iPhone 4S on 5.0.1 and I'm not upgrading until an untethered jailbreak comes out, I advise you all to do the same. And obviously for any A4 users, save those SHSH blobs
