I really could use some help...

Hi...
I bought an Iphone 3GS 32GB about 2 years ago in Vancouver. After that I moved to Brazil and started using an brazilian carrier.
I recently updated to IOS 5 and now it says that I have to insert the correct sim card.
I tried to jailbreak with redsn0w but in the end of the process it freezes in that little loading circle that apperas after the apple logo.
I don't know what to do anymore...I saw that I can unlock my iphone with ultrasn0w but I can't get passed the sim card error.
And no, I don't have the original sim card that came with the iphone.

I know it was kind of dumb to update to IOS 5.
But please help me.

if you bought it locked to another carrier then ultrasn0w wont help because it only unlocks an earlier baseband so the one that comes with 5.0 is no good, and you cant downgrade baseband
