How to prepare for upgrading IOS over many versions

I'm about to (attempt) to upgrade from 11.3.1 to the latest (13.1.2?) for a 5S.

Is there any preparation I can do in case it doesn't go well and I need to recover?

Any other advice?

The latest system the 5S can run is iOS 12.4.2. Before you update make sure to back up to iCloud, or alternatively, iTunes.

I don’t think you can do it. iPhone 6S and SE or newer is what they say
