With the growing popularity of the iPhone 4, you may want to use the phone on another network than AT&T and Verizon Wireless. However, if you want to use the iPhone 4 on another network, you have to unlock the device. This is necessary if you want to use the SIM card for your wireless carrier with the iPhone 4.

.Download and install a jailbreak program on your computer. You have many to choose from, including "UltraSn0w," "BlackRa1n" and "RedSn0w."
.Launch the jailbreak software once it completes installation. Connect your iPhone 4 to your computer via the USB cable that came with it.
.Allow the program to recognize that you have your iPhone connected to the computer. Examine the iPhone on your screen for the "Cydia Installer" and click its icon to launch it.
.Press the "Manage" tab at the bottom of your iPhone device's screen. This button will appear second from the right.
.Press on the "Sources" button. This should be the option that is directly in the middle of the iPhone's screen.
.Locate the link for your installed jailbreak program and click on it.
.Click the "Install" button at the top right of your iPhone 4's screen and click the "Confirm" button, which appears in the same area. This will install the jailbreak application.
.Look for the message that appears after the installation finishes. Press the "Restart Springboard" button at the bottom of the screen. This will unlock your iPhone 4.
.Insert the SIM card into your iPhone 4 and you can use the phone on your own wireless carrier.
