How do I know if my mates iPhone is a 3G or 3gs

Go to: Settings> General> About.

Or look on the back for the 5 digit model number that starts with, "A".

Scroll down to the "Model" row to find the device's model number.
3G has a model number of A1241.
3GS has a model number of A1303.[/h]

Go to Settings > General scroll down to find what OS it's on if it's higher than 4.2.1 it's definantly a 3GS just incase he is running his 3GS on iOS 4 connect to iTunes and check if there is an update available if there is an update available as 6.0.1 it's a 3Gs. Or check at the back of the phone where it says iPhone if it has the GB model at the back it's a 3GS if it doesn't it's a 3G.

you can also see if the phone has a compass app. also you can go to the camera app and see if the phone is able to record video.

I wanted to say that, but lets get back on the topic.
I agree with kingnba6, check if you can record a video, if you can't it's a 3G! If you can it's a 3GS!
