help with itunes

on my old iphone..when i wanted to get a song from itunes playlist..i just clicked on itunes on my phone, clicked on purchases (not on this iphone) chose a song I wanted to download to the phone, and clicked on it.

Im signed in to the itunes store, etc.. on this new phone..when I try and go to purchased under itunes now, it says i dont have any purchased music available to download? WHAT!?

What am i missing?
