In the past few months, we've seen car manufacturers get on board with Apple's CarPlay feature for iOS. However this feature was only limited to new model cars, until Pioneer and Alpine released aftermarket in-dash systems supporting the feature.

Audio equipment manufacturer Harman is looking to integrate CarPlay in a new fashion. Instead of replacing the stereo in an automobile, Harman's looking to replace the dashboard behind the wheel.

Seen in the photo above, the speedometer and tachometer are on the left and right side, while in the middle we see Apple's CarPlay. The top right even displays the current temperature and the bottom left shows the fuel gauge.

"If CarPlay crashes or hangs, everything else continues to run properly", adds Harman.

The feature seems like a nifty idea, but I have a feeling it would distract drivers more than ever. I feel like if this was implanted into my car I would fiddle with it more than my stereo while driving, maybe that's just me.

What do you guys think of Harmans take on CarPlay integration?
