Ensquared is the #1 authority when it comes to options in iPhone insurance. It competes with the carriers on accidental damage, lost & stolen – especially Verizon iPhone insurance and Sprint iPhone insurance (the latter being really non-existent). However, Ensquared iPhone insurance more than shows its teeth when it comes to pure iPhone accidental damage . In this important coverage Ensquared comes up against SquareTrade and GoCare, both of which do not offer Lost and Stolen as an option.
Firstly, right out of the gates, Ensquared offer iPhone users both accidental damage coverage only or comprehensive coverage with lost and stolen, whereas SquareTrade and GoCare do not.
That said SquareTrade offers iPhone users a two year policy on accidental damage for $99 for all devices less than 30 days old only with a total claim value over the two years of $599 (at best a one claim policy for serious damage) and a deductible per claim of $50. Ensquared by comparison offer two year accidental damage for $89.99 with $3000 total claim value (a three claim policy for serious damage) for iPhones less than 90 days old and also only a $50 deductible per claim. Square Trade throw in extended warranty coverage as well knowing that their accidental protection on its own is unlikely to endure the two years if a claim is made – thus invalidating the two year promise. The extended warranty only kicks in at year two of the iPhone’s life as it focuses only on factory default even if the accidental damage protection has expired. With Ensquared’s three claim capability of $1000 per claim accidental protection should remain solid through the entire two years (unless the owner damages it four times). Reputable underwriters back both Ensquared and SquareTrade.
GoCare from its web site appears to be mostly a repair service whereas Ensquared is for the most part a replacement service. Fortegra is the underwriter in both cases, therefore offering peace of mind no matter what your preference is. In our view, time delays with replacement are lower when compared to repair options in the majority of cases. GoCare are attractive in the sense they take on any age of device and there are no limits to the number of claims. There is a significant advantage going with GoCare versus SquareTrade where the claim limit is capped. Aside from that they also apply a $50 deductible and their two year program costs you $97 (one year is $57) – slightly less than SquareTrade but higher than Ensquared. It really boils down to whether you prefer repair or replacement when looking for coverage for your device.
