Apple has long been focused on integrating health and fitness features into its product ecosystem, and it appears AirPods may soon get some noteworthy upgrades. According to well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is planning to add more health-related functionalities to future AirPods models, with the upcoming Powerbeats Pro 2 providing a glimpse of what’s in store.

Heart Rate Monitoring

One of the most anticipated features in Powerbeats Pro 2 is heart rate monitoring, designed to make workouts more insightful. Based on recent findings in the iOS 18 code, the Powerbeats Pro 2 will allow users to track their heart rate during exercise sessions, with compatibility to connect directly to gym equipment like treadmills. This feature will integrate seamlessly with the iPhone’s Health app, making it easy to view and analyze heart rate data alongside other health metrics.

Heart rate monitoring has been rumored for AirPods Pro in the past but has yet to materialize. With the technology seemingly ready for the Powerbeats Pro 2, this addition might finally come to AirPods as well, offering users a more comprehensive fitness tracking experience.

Body Temperature Sensing

In addition to heart rate monitoring, Apple is reportedly exploring body temperature sensing for AirPods. After successfully incorporating wrist temperature monitoring in the Apple Watch Series 8 and newer, Apple seems poised to bring this functionality to AirPods in the future. This would mark an exciting development in wearable tech, providing users with an alternative method for keeping tabs on body temperature trends.

The Bigger Picture - AirPods as a Health and Fitness Device

As Apple continues to build out its ecosystem of health features, integrating these capabilities into AirPods could add substantial value to users’ wellness routines. Future AirPods may soon become an essential fitness tracking and monitoring tool, enhancing Apple’s robust health product lineup.

With both heart rate and body temperature monitoring potentially on the horizon, AirPods are on track to become even more integral to users’ daily lives, pushing the boundaries of what earbuds can offer.

Rumors suggest future AirPods could include heart rate and temperature tracking, expanding their health features beyond just audio. These sensors could provide real-time health data, similar to the Apple Watch, making AirPods a more comprehensive fitness tool. The features would integrate with the Apple Health app, offering users a convenient way to monitor their health during workouts or daily activities. However, these are still speculative features with no official confirmation from Apple yet.

At this rate I'll be dead of old age by the time they've added it, and it goes through the UK's approval system !

To follow on, even if all UK permissions are granted, I and from what I read, many others will not get the benefit ! This is because none of the tips provided, project far enough into my ear canals to stay in my ears. It is often suggested that foam inserts may solve the problem. I don't like foam inserts, they don't feel at all comfortable, and they wear out quickly. Yet another instance of Apple not going the distance for it's customers.
