Despite all the talk leading up to the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus that Apple’s supply chain was fully prepared to handle the huge customer demand that was bound to ensue, it appears from a story in today’s Wall Street Journal that the demand has been so huge that Foxconn is already beginning to struggle.

Although Foxconn has more than 200,000 workers at its Zhenghou site in a bid to keep up with the unprecedented demand, many of whom are new hires, it looks like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will still be in very short supply for the first few months following its release.

The Wall Street Journal says that Foxconn has around 100 production lines going full tilt around the clock.

“We have been churning out 140,000 iPhone 6 Plus and 400,000 iPhone 6 every day, the highest daily output ever, but the volume is still not enough to meet the preorders,” said the WSJ source.

Apparently a shortage of 5.5-inch displays is another reason for the shortages of that particular model.
