I found an iPhone 6+ on a hike and it is passcode protected. Recharged the battery and started it up. There is a photo of a German Shepard but no other identification. Tried using Siri, but it wouldn’t open. Tried making an emergency call, but that is apparently not set up on the phone. A Verizon tech told me the phone is now a paperweight. Anyone have any ideas for what to do with it. I did post a notice and photo on Facebook but have had no responses.

You could try contacting your local police department. If it was reported as lost or stolen they may be able to trace the owner.

Also, Apple would be able to tell you. Take it to your local Apple store, or if you are unable to get to a store, then bell them. They may be able to tell you something over the phone.

Apple should be able to notify the original owner

If the Carrier is showing on the phone, they might be able to help.
