Face-swapping applications are becoming more and more abundant in the iTunes App Store. The catalyst in all this was Snapchat's addition to live filters for photos and videos last fall.

One popular face-swapping app is MSQRD, first introduced in January 2016. MSQRD offers live filters and masks, ranging from animals, celebrities, hats, costumes and more. With the majority of reviews being positive, it's no surprise that MSQRD caught Facebook's attention, which acquired the team behind the app today.

Acquiring MSQRD seems like a smart move for the social networking giant. With this acquisition we could possibly see MSQRD's technology being implemented directly into Facebook. The possibilities are endless, especially with the possibility of partners and advertisers wanting to promote using the platform.

MSQRD can be found in the iTunes App Store for free.
