9to5 Mac reports today that an executive from one of Apple’s mobile carriers in Dubai may have accidentally let the cat out of the bag regarding the release of the iPhone 5. According to a report on GulfNews.com, United Arab Emirates wireless carrier etisalat’s head of corporate communication, Ali Al Ahmad, has given the following telling quote today:

“Yes, we are in talks with most smartphone manufacturers including Apple on the rollout of the 4G handset iPhone 5 later this year. As the first telecom organisation to roll out the 4G network, LTE, in the Middle East, we have already started talking to them for the handsets and chipsets in them.”

Although Al Ahmad doesn’t give a specific ETA for the iPhone 5, which many expect to be September 2011, he does appear to confirm that it will be called iPhone 5, and that it will support LTE.

I would really like to know who is making the LTE chip with auto 3G/1X rollover in mass quantity. Either this is the biggest kept secret in the chip making industry or the iPhone 5 isn't coming out till next year. Because there isn't a single analyst or SEC filling showing anyone is making single chip LTE/3G solutions in quantities of above 3 million per month as of May 31st.
